Organizational Need: Bord na Mona was undergoing a significant business transformation to become more commercial and expand its B2B and B2C operations globally, including the UK and US. The senior leadership recognized that the current leaders lacked the necessary skills to drive the new strategy. Therefore, the CEO and Senior Leadership Team sought a comprehensive leadership development program for the top 100 managers to ensure effective and efficient execution of the new strategy.


Leadership Development Intervention: As Head of People Development and Programme Facilitator, Kokua Hub co-founder conducted a thorough diagnostic with the senior leadership team to clarify the organizational strategy and goals. This diagnostic process helped define the core leadership competencies essential for the strategy's success.


  1. Core Competencies Identification: We identified eight critical competencies necessary for leadership effectiveness in the new strategic landscape.

  2. Program Design: An intensive 8-day leadership program delivered over eight months, facilitated by various experts. Each session focused on a distinct competency area, allowing participants to assimilate and apply learnings progressively.

  3. Learning Integration: The program structure provided ample time between modules for participants to internalize each competency before progressing to the next. This iterative approach ensured deeper understanding and practical application.

  4. Cross-Functional Projects: To facilitate learning transfer, participants were required to engage in cross-functional projects throughout the program. These projects encouraged collaboration and practical application of the learned competencies to real company challenges.
